If the external scanner has USB connector, you can connect it directly. Maybe you will need reducer: USB-A female to USB-C male.
It depends on what phone or tablet you're using.
You can also use mobile phone as an external scanner. Just install Elementary POS there and select "Menu","Settings","Remote barcode scanner".
